In case those of you owning a Wii haven't noticed, they've now added Super Mario RPG to the Virtual Console downloads in the Wii Shop Channel. YES, this landmark title in the RPG genre has now become available for download. This is also great considering that there hasn't been a SNES release on the Virtual Console in quite some time. Many fans will be happy about this, it's definitely a title worth the points. If those of you owning a Wii have not heard of this game then you should go to the Shop channel now and buy it. (The ROM is ESA protected, meaning you can't just download it online) It's really worth the Wii Points though, you won't be disappointed. All that's really left now is 'Super Smash Bros."
For those of you hardcore Nintendo fans, how long have you have you been subscribed to Nintendo Power? Since it was first published under the name of 'Nintendo Fan Club News'? Or in 1988 when it was discontinued as 'Nintendo Fan Club News' and revamped as 'Nintendo Power'. Have you started to read in between then and now?
Well, whether you're new to Nintendo Power or you've been subscribed since it was the several page "magazine" I'm sure that you'll find interest in this article written by Peter Hopkins as a reflection of the first ever issue. It was written in celebration of Nintendo Power's 20th Birthday.
Interesting news in the Wii homebrew/hacking scene. It appears as if the Virtual Console games from the Wii Shop Channel have been decrypted and revealed as simple ROMs with HTML help files. Each game also comes with its own emulator included in the game WAD file. There is some concern within the scene that this might result in tighter security by Nintendo in terms of newer security patches and updates. It could result in a higher level of difficulty for those interested in customizing their Wii, however Nintendo has yet to release an official statement, so there is no telling what direction they could go with this.
